Welcome

Hello and welcome to my PELP subdomain!

PELP stands for the Presidential Emerging Leaders Program at the University of Mary Washington. It is a one-year program that helps students cultivate real-world leadership techniques to use both on campus and after graduation. Its four goals are involvement, self-actualization, strategic thinking, and wellness.

Students develop their skills and work towards these goals in a variety of ways:

  1. Twice-monthly meetings where we participate in activities and discussions in order to realize our leadership style and when to implement different methods (leading from behind, autocratic vs. democratic leadership, laissez-faire leading, etc.)
  2. Lead Mary Wash Workshops that focus on specific skills such as confident body language, public speaking, quick-thinking, mindfulness and avoiding burnout, collaboration with a team, and self-reflection.
  3. Fall and Spring Passports. These are check-lists of sorts for the fall and spring semester that challenge students to get involved on campus and step out of our comfort zone. We must complete a minimum of two activities in each of the four columns.

Feel free to click around and check out what I’ve been up to!

Simplified Summary

Welcome to my PELP website! This is where I write about my time in the Presidential Emerging Leaders Program at the University of Mary Washington. It is an opportunity for freshman to build their leadership skills through meetings, workshops, and campus involvement.
